Avery is incredibly tired of feeling like a child in need of babysitting. This whole tour has proved an exercise in being handled. Each hotel, each bookstore comes with a helpful staff who tell her where to go, when she can eat lunch, if she has time for a restroom break. She was at least sleeping in her own room at each hotel stop, but now that’s gone, and the police have taken the place of bookshop managers—with the added element of fear for her life to spice things up.
